Mia looked into her captor’s furious eyes and managed an uneasy, apologetic smile. “Looks like you got me, huh—” was all she managed to say before her captor shoved the rag back into her mouth. It didn’t taste any better the second time. He wrapped her gag back around her head, knotting it savagely tightly, before taking out another one and pulling it tight over her mouth and nose. This new layer pushed the rags deeper into her mouth, making it almost impossible not to gag, and the thick material covered her nose, as if it wasn’t hard enough to breathe already. Gods, she hadn’t thought the gag could get any worse…

“Gonna have to tie you tighter this time…” the man muttered, as Mia kept trying to pull her wrists free. He pulled another rag out of his pocket—he seemed to have an endless supply of them—and poured some kind of sweet-smelling liquid onto it. The smell was strong even from where Mia was; when he shoved it over her mouth and nose, it became overpowering. Mia tried to hold her breath, but the fumes from the drug still seeped into her nostrils.
